How install VST Plugins

This is simple, all you have to do is move the plugin to the indicated folder, and then your DAW will automatically scan the plugin, or manually depending on the DAW you use.

The file extension for Windows is .dll and for Mac .vst

VST2 Plugins

You have to move the VST2 plugins to one of these two folders:

  • C:\Program Files\VstPlugins
  • C:\ProgramFiles\SteinbergVstPlugins

To find out which folder your DAW uses, you can simply find it in the plugins settings of your DAW.

Just move the VST plugins folder to this location and you’re done.

VST3 Plugins

These plugins you have to place in the folder

  • C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3

The biggest advantage of VST3 plugins is that they don’t consume CPU when they are not being used.
