SURVIVE Free Stereo Clipping Processor

Clipping is an essential technique in modern mixing and mastering for trimming unnecessary transient peaks
However, uncontrolled digital clipping frequently introduces harsh inharmonic foldback aliasing or compromises low-end tightness.
SURVIVE, developed by quietformat, is a free, feature-rich advanced clipping processor designed to manage peaks cleanly. Combining high-resolution oversampling, Anti-Derivative Anti-Aliasing (ADAA), and a multifaceted sound-shaping engine, it offers comprehensive control over dynamics across individual tracks, buses, or full mixes.
Anti-Aliasing and Core Clipping Engine
SURVIVE focuses on transparency and sonic integrity by preventing the artifacts typically associated with digital hard clippers:
- Nonlinear Clipping Path: Employs precision curves to shave off transients while keeping the body of the sound intact.
- Filtered Oversampling & ADAA: Combines selectable 4x and 8x oversampling with Anti-Derivative Anti-Aliasing algorithms, dramatically suppressing unwanted fold-back distortion in the high-frequency spectrum.
- Knee Control: Offers a variable transition from aggressive hard clipping to smooth, gradual soft clipping.
Multidimensional Tone Sculpting: The XY Pad
Rather than relying solely on input drive and output ceiling controls, SURVIVE introduces an intuitive XY Pad that dynamically shifts processing emphasis across four distinct tonal domains:
- SUB: Emphasizes weight and foundational low-frequency solidity.
- BODY: Targets sustained midrange density and harmonic presence.
- PUNCH: Prioritizes transient attack and percussive snap.
- AIR: Manages high-frequency openness and sheen without introducing harshness.
Flexible Routing and Detailed Controls
- Routing Modes: Supports standard Stereo, independent Left/Right (L/R), and Mid/Side (M/S) processing. Parameters such as Input, Ceiling, Knee, Mix, and Output can be adjusted independently per channel or linked together.
- Fine-Tuning Parameters: Includes specialized secondary controls such as Texture, Tone, Shadow, Width, and Clean Sub (to keep sub-bass frequencies monophonic and undistorted).
- Parallel Processing: Built-in dry/wet Mix control for parallel saturation and soft-clipping blends.
- Visual Waveform Display: A real-time scrolling timeline simultaneously plots both the input signal and the processed waveform, highlighting the exact areas where clipping takes place.
- Workflow Utilities: Features A/B/C state comparison slots and complete Undo/Redo functionality for stress-free experimentation.
