The Canary Free Plugin for Drums
Canary was designed to help you create the most powerful and compelling drums you’ve ever recorded or mixed. This plug-in allows you to expand and bring back some fundamental aspects of the drum signal that may have been lost during the recording process or weren’t there in the first place.
These include tone, attack, sustain and some very basic filters, which define the natural sound of the drum shell. Did you lose attack and impact in your recording? Do your drum signals sound dull or not particularly powerful? Canary is here to help, synthetically adding those missing characteristics, allowing you to refine and redefine your drums in the mix.
Features
Attack Processor
The attack processor highlights the attack phases of the input signal. The amount of attack added can be adjusted to taste or simply turned off by right-clicking the corresponding knob. This is our go-to feature on dull-sounding, close-miked snares or toms and really helps them stand out in your mixes.
Sustain Processor
The Sustain Processor adds a synthetic sustain phase that is triggered by the input signal. The amount of added sustain and its pitch can be adjusted to taste or simply turned off by right-clicking the corresponding control. It works especially well on thin kick drum signals: dial in a lower tune, set the filter to low pass, add sustain and adjust the mix control to taste – boom!
Filtering and Mixing
The added signal components can be filtered using a set of 4 simple preset filters that suit different types of kick drum shells. Use the mix control to mix between the dry and the processed signal.
SSE2 Optimized Code
DSP operations are pipelined using the SSE2 instruction set. This ensures high-performance operation despite very complex calculations.
HighDPI/Retina Support
The user interfaces support high pixel density on both Windows and Mac OSX to give you the most pleasant user experience on high DPI displays. Check your manual to find out if your DAW supports HighDPI if you are working on Windows.
