What is a SCAM / SACM?

A Society of Authors and Composers of Music (SCAM) is a non-profit organization that represents the copyrights of composers, lyricists and musicians. Its main objective is to protect the intellectual property rights of its members and ensure that they receive fair compensation for the use of their musical works.

Why is it important to register musical works in a SCAM?

There are several reasons why it is important to register musical works in a SCAM:

Copyright protection: When registering a musical work, you obtain a registration certificate that serves as proof of intellectual property. This can be useful in case of legal disputes over the authorship or use of the work.

Collection of royalties: SCAMs are responsible for collecting royalties from people or companies that use the musical works of their members. These royalties can come from different sources, such as radio broadcasting, mechanical reproduction, live performance, and synchronization with films or television.

Access to additional services: SCAMs typically offer a variety of additional services to their members, such as legal advice, promotional opportunities, and access to licensing databases.

It is important to note that these are just some of the main SCAMs. There are many other local and regional societies that also represent music creators.
