Enter MUEDlim (also known as MUEDsp limiter)—a straightforward, highly effective, and completely free true-peak limiter designed to catch inter-sample peaks with precision.
Rather than being a stripped-down demo, MUEDlim is the exact peak-limiting final stage taken directly out of MUEDsp, an upcoming professional mastering suite currently in development.
What It Does
MUEDlim is built to do one thing and do it flawlessly: hold your true peaks to a defined ceiling while letting you push the loudness of your mix. It catches those elusive inter-sample peaks that standard digital limiters often miss, ensuring your audio won’t clip when converted to lossy formats (like MP3 or AAC) or when streaming online.
Minimalist, Workflow-Focused Controls
The interface is designed for speed and musicality, avoiding the clutter of unnecessary parameters. You only need to focus on two main controls:
- INPUT: Controls the input drive (from -6 dB to +18 dB). This is where you dial in your desired loudness.
- CEILING: Sets the absolute true-peak ceiling (from -3 dBTP to 0 dBTP, with a default setting of -1 dBTP, the standard for most streaming platforms).
Additionally, it features a seamless BYPASS toggle (Active / Bypass) for honest A/B testing without gain-staging tricks.
Visual Feedback
The plugin provides a clean, modern display featuring a steady loudness-history graph. It shows critical metering information at a glance, including:
- Integrated LUFS
- Short-Term LUFS
- Gain Reduction (GR)
- Loudness Range (LU)
- True-Peak (dBTP) levels
Compatibility
MUEDlim is 100% free with nothing locked and no paywalls. Currently, it is available for macOS (Universal – Apple Silicon & Intel) in VST3, AU, and AAX (Pro Tools) formats.
