Synthesizer Expander Module Free Plugin

The Free Plugin That Revolutionizes Your Music Production

Cherry Audio’s Synthesizer Expander Module is inspired by the legendary Oberheim® module originally released in 1974. This plugin accurately emulates the iconic features of the keyboardless mono module that revolutionized electronic music. Used by legendary artists such as Joe Zawinul, Steve Porcaro (Toto), and Jan Hammer, this free virtual instrument offers unique sound quality and versatility for your modern productions.

With a design optimized for the 21st century, the Synthesizer Expander Module combines vintage technology with digital innovations, allowing you to create deep basses, vibrant leads, and unique percussion with ease. Plus, its multi-mode filter programmed by award-winning synthesizer designer Mark Barton (MRB) makes it a must-have tool for any music producer.

What is the Synthesizer Expander Module?

The Synth Expander is a free emulation of the standalone Oberheim® module, originally designed as an add-on to the DS-2 digital sequencer. This plugin faithfully recreates the 12 dB/oct state-variable filter, renowned for its flexibility and analog warmth. With low-pass, band-pass, high-pass, and notch modes, this filter remains the star of the show, delivering a rich and detailed sound.

Thanks to a collaboration with Mark Barton (MRB), the plugin includes a unique “Phasor” effects section, emulating the classic Oberheim pedal, as well as a high-quality, tempo-synced echo effect. It’s perfect for both beginners and professionals looking to experiment with authentic vintage sounds.

Highlighted Features

The Synth Expander features ultra-precise dual oscillators, a multi-mode filter programmed by MRB, and a massive unison mode that adds depth and character to your sounds. It includes 100 ready-to-use presets designed for bass, leads, pads, and percussion, plus a unique Phasor effect that replicates the Oberheim pedal. It also offers a professional echo effect with tempo sync and full MIDI control to automate all parameters from your DAW.

The interface is intuitive and streamlined, with zoom and resize options for a customizable experience. Additionally, the DSP is highly optimized to ensure smooth performance even on less powerful systems.

Its vintage sound quality, combined with modern features, makes it ideal for creating deep bass, melodic leads, and atmospheric effects in genres like synthwave, EDM, rock, and more. In addition, its comprehensive documentation and easy access to resources make it an accessible tool for musicians of all levels.
